Overview
ARGOS-Tools is the ArcGIS 9 based extension, designed for importing, processing and exporting data obtained by satellite telemetry via Argos system. Argos-tools supports batch processing, filters, reports and track functions.
Functionality
Import ARGOS data
Convert ARGOS data file to ArcGIS feature class. Argos-tools can import following file formats:
- Argos *.dia (diagnostic) format;
- Argos *.dia (diagnostic) format via e-mail, telnet, or the newly introduced Argos-web service;
- Delimited format (e.g. exported from Excel).
Recalculate
Calculate distance, speed and angle for selected feature class.
Force alternative coordinates
Manually change coordinates of selected points to alternative coordinates. This function works in all selected layers.
Filters
Check and delete invalid data. Supported filters:
- validity of the alternative location;
- Argos quality class (LC class);
- Plausible ground speed of the PTT;
- User-set of threshold values for Distance-Speed and Angle of travel of the PTT.
Report LC stats
Calculates a frequency table of location classes for selected PTT
Report Day distance stats
Calculates a parameter that is known as Minimum Distance Moved, i.e. consecutive sum of distances travelled per day by PTT.
Build Track
Create a polyline-track from selected point class. Create 3d polyline from 3d points.
Convert to 3D
Convert selected layer to 3d feature.
Preferences
Set GTM offset and other parameters of extension. The user adjustment of a date format at files import.

Notes:
- You can view feature class within the current data frame projection.
- You can apply all functions of the extension to all selected layers (i.e. work in batch mode).
- You can save the results into shape-files, geodatabase or SDE-base storage with metadata.
- Any filtering or recalculation procedure (such as "force alternative coordinates", "recalculate", etc.) saves data into points feature class automatically, i.e. additional saving feature class or shape files is not required.
